The Philippine Fashion Industry opens their royal gate to Milka Quin Redoble, a 34-year old fashion entrepreneur who bagged the title as the first female winner of the Project Runway Philippines.
I have been an avid fan of PRP 3 since it started airing on March 25 and I have seen how these young designers developed their fashion senses and technical skills. Honestly, my picks are Amor Albano and Cheetah Rivera for coming up with consistently stunning designs each challenge. They have been proved that they should really have a space for the fashion world globally. On the other hand, it was really a roller coaster ride for Milka, who have made her way up and down in the entire challenge.
For the first time, they were four who would compete for the title: Nel, Cheetah, Amor and Milka, and they were asked to formulate a 12-piece design collection on whatever inspiration they want.
Nel Claveria, being first to exhibit his designs showcased a bubble inspired collection. It was a refreshing, relaxing and calm collection that mirrors the magical foam of the sea. I love Nel, however he I wasn't amazed by his previous designs in the last challenges. But I can raise my hands and bow down for his excellent tailoring skills. And in his final collection, I really saw his development which will make his way to the fashion industry.
Contrary to the tweetums personality of Nel's collection, Cheetah got her inspiration from African savannah. It was dark, scary and wild as she wanted to feel the mood of Survival of the Fittest to her audience. And I congratulate her for successfully achieving that goal. It totally wowed me that I felt I was already watching a collection from a famous avante-garde designer in Philippine Fashion Week. It also did wow the judges, however Cheetah's designs are almost as close to Alexander McQueen's. I would totally agree with the judges as they would really want to see the real Cheetah in her designs because PRP is also about bringing out your personality through your masterpieces.
On the other hand, Amor, being one of my bets, did disappoint me. I understand her sugary sweet personality that mirrors all her designs from the start but her final collection was too plain and simple, especially knowing that her inspiration came from the rock formation which is very mysterious ad exciting. I know and I believe she could have done better for that. But after all, I know there is a brighter future ahead of her after PRP 3.
Lastly, Milka showcased her 'Musa', a term for bananas as her inspiration. Milka and Cheetah were the last persons standing for garnering the highest points, and it was very difficult to decide which collection is better considering the two different styles and fashion genres presented. But after the tough judging, they have made a decision to choose Milka, for her innovative designs that captured the runway. I would agree with Apples Aberin as she mentioned Milka's designs can be worn by any Filipino women and they can still look extraordinary. Milka's collection reflects the contemporary women who can be stunning in a simplest manner. Congratulations Milka!
I will definitely miss watching Project Runway Philippines. I won't have to turn on the TV every Sunday night just witness new and fresh fashion ideas from these young Filipino designers. I will definitely wait for Project Runway Philippines 4!
